“A fantastic city park to while away the hours.”
I visited with 4 kids from 3-10 years old. We travelled via Dammtor station which takes you only a minutes walk from the northern end of the park. There was so much to do in this section alone that we didn't have time to explore the rest of the park. There is a good activity park for the kids (Spielplatz) with water fun, so take towels and swim shorts. There are cages and kiosks dotted all around the park. We then explored the gardens walking over the pools with the stepping stones, though the 'apothekergarten' herb garden, Rose garden and around the lake. This park is so big that you will always find a quiet spot for reading, but I am told that on a sunny day it is so popular that the chairs and benches are soon taken. Using the park costs nothing. This is a perfect place for a picnic. I would recommend this for both visitors and new residents of Hamburg. If you only have one day, I would take a look at the park website using google translate first. (google eath using st. Petersburger St.)The park has regular music concerts in the musikpavillon, there is a kindertheater, pony ride days and more besides. The website shows the diary of events. www.plantenunblomen.hamburg.de
